creating with the Creator

a bed is not for resting

sleep, work, repeat

pause, notice, rest

rest is for fresh

fresh moments,

a bed is not for resting

you just need refreshing

October has been full. Full in the good way and the overwhelming way. It's been a busy month, with long days and a full brain with thoughts to process. But it has also been full with good things. Full of celebrations, full of connections, friendships, creativity, full of sunshine, a golden autumn, art, and beauty. Some highlights include: seeing my friends host their first Poetry Workshop (a long awaited dream and vision come to life), all the creative things and a sweet, sun-filled week with Josh. I've been thinking a lot about what gives me rest and how to rest and how important rest is. I haven't landed on anything yet, but creativity is a good start. Very thankful for creative community this month!

The Creative DTS has been digging into topics such as co-creating, creative community, discipline of notice, perfection vs. excellence, and why art is important. Now that students have settled in and gotten comfortable, we've been able to challenge them to jump off the creative high dive, so to say. Students are becoming confident sharing their work and co-creating with the Holy Spirit. With the Fine Art track we've been practice creative habits and disciplines like sketching, composition, editing, feedback, and presenting. At the end of the month, we started the big assignment that they will display in the community exhibition. I got so inspired and energized when many chose to step out of their comfort zone, either with the size of the piece or the medium. We've created a safe space for them to try new things. I am excited to see what they will make and how they will partner with God in their creativity in ministry. One month until they start the 2 month outreach phase.

Challenge for you - practice the disciple of notice. Go for a walk, what do you notice? What stands out to you? What does it make you think of? Does it remind you of something. It could be a colour, a sound, a smell. It could be nature, an art gallery, a favourite neighbourhood. Practicing slowing down, pause for a moment, make some connections and maybe create something new.

Peace and love
